As part of the Mares Circulares project - an Iberian initiative aimed at preserving the oceans based on awareness/training, cleaning the coasts and seabed, and promoting the circular economy - LPN together with about a dozen volunteers from Coca-Cola celebrated the World Ocean Day - June 8th - at the Galapos/Galapinhos beach, one of the most emblematic of the Arrábida Natural Park.
With the theme "preserving the oceans", the morning included an awareness-raising action and waste collection along the entire beach and cliff connection.
After the collection, the various types of waste found were quantified and weighed: undifferentiated, plastics, tetra-pack packaging, and glass.
Of the approximately 48 kg collected, the residues with the greatest impact were glass, ropes, and fishing nets, which represented 20% and 25%, respectively, of the total.
The Mares Circulares project has as one of its pillars, education and awareness, having been created an interactive platform "aprendecommarescirculares" where you can, in a fun way, learn a little more about the project, about ocean preservation and in particular about the problem of marine waste.
