Domingos Leitão

Domingos Leitão, began birdwatching in 1987, with a group of biology students from the Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon. He has a degree in Biology and a PhD in Ecology from the same university, with published works mostly on birds in agricultural areas.

He has worked for the Instituto da Conservação da Natureza (Institute for Nature Conservation), the Liga para a Protecção da Natureza (League for the Protection of Nature) and the Ministry of Education.

He is a founding member of the Sociedade Portuguesa para o Estudo das Aves (SPEA) / Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds and current Executive Director of this NGO, after 14 years in the coordination of conservation and monitoring projects of terrestrial birds. He has also been involved in the promotion and development of ornithological tourism, having led dozens of ornithological visits in Portugal and abroad, for groups from SPEA and English, Swiss and German companies.
